I find this very sad – but then I wonder if the trend is really something new? Haven’t old men been sending young men to die in wars and other violent activities since time immemorial? Not offering that as an excuse – we are supposed to be more civilised nowadays, so it’s shameful that this is still the case. Or perhaps we should side with Steven Pinker and say yes, poor progress, but progress …?
